Rovers U23s could be top of the Premier League 2 table this evening as they make the trip to the East Midlands to take on Leicester City U23s.

Billy Barr’s side kicked off 2021 with a 1-1 draw at Manchester City last week, and will now look to extend their away unbeaten run in the league.

They face a young Foxes side who sit in eleventh in the table, despite scoring two more than Rovers this season.

The Opposition

Managed by Steve Beagleshole, Leicester have had a season full of inconsistencies. After winning their opening fixture at Manchester United, they lost their following four – including a 4-0 defeat to Rovers, before winning their next three.

It is clear that these inconsistencies have slowed the Foxes down this season, having finished second in the Premier League 2 table last season after it was settled on a points per game basis.

Callum Wright – the former Rovers midfielder – is Leicester’s top scorer so far this season, scoring five times and also adding two assists to his tally.

Team News

Elliott Bennett is expected to feature again, as the captain makes his comeback from injury that has limited him to just one appearance this season.

However, the U23s will be without their own captain Joe Grayson, who has made a loan move to Oxford United this afternoon.

Jack Vale will also be absent, with the Welsh forward staying at home due to a potential loan move being on the cards.

Predictions

It is an almost near impossible job to predict tonight’s starting XI with all the changes and transfers from Rovers, meaning this will be some sort of a blind guess.

Predicted XI: Eastham, Pike, Barnes, Annesley, Thompson, Mols, Paton, Whitehall, Brennan, McBride, Burns

In terms of the fixture, considering both team’s positions in the division, I’m expecting a professional performance from Billy Barr’s side, giving them all three points to top the Premier League 2 Table.

Prediction: Leicester City U23s 1-2 Rovers U23s
