Rovers U18s pick up all three points at Wolves

Rovers U18s picked up their first points of 2021 with a dramatic victory away to Wolves U18s.

Mike Sheron’s side were into their fourth game of the New Year, compared to this being the visitors’ first, and that showed as Rovers took the lead in the eighth minute through Alex Baker.

Just six minutes later, the forward grabbed his and Rovers’ second to put the visitors in control.

However, Wolves grew into the match as the game approached half-time, and they halved the deficit with around ten minutes left of the first half as Filozofe Mabete powered home at the far post.

Both sides struggled to get hold of the second half, and as the clock ran down, the hosts equalised as Kam Kandola headed home from close range to level the scores.

However, Rovers responded within sixty seconds and took the lead as Harrison Wood saw the ball fall to him at the back post and he struck past Arinbjornsson in the Wolves goal.

The visitors held on for only their second win of the 2020-21 season, with their other coming away to Burnley.

Rovers will look to follow up the victory with another positive result this Saturday as they travel to Leeds.

Rovers: Goddard, Haddow, Pratt, Wyatt (Montgomery 65′), Gent, Pleavin (Famiwuya 65′), Wood (Chmiel 78′), Weston, Fyles, Baker, Wharton.

Unused sub: Blease.

Goals: Baker 8′, 14′, Wood 88′
