Following the hard fought 1-0 away win at Middlesbrough, Jonathan Secker hands out his player ratings.

Thomas Kaminski 8

Three important saves throughout the game to keep Middlesbrough at bay.  Commanding in his box and again impressive distribution.  Exactly the sort of performance you need from your goal keeper – signing of the season and a steal at 500k.

Ryan Nyambe 6

Sloppy at times in possession but grew into the game.  Showed superb strength and composure to play a big part in the winning goal.

Darragh Lenihan 8

The skipper led by example and dealt with everything Middlesbrough threw his way – even happy to take out Davenport when winning the ball.

Jarrad Branthwaite 6

Lucky not to give away a penalty which seemed to leave him shaken for a while.  Much steadier in the second half and will be glad to be part of his first Rovers clean sheet.

Barry Douglas 7

Looked shaky defensively at times but another that grew into the game and looked good going forward.  Great switch to Nyambe in the lead up to the goal and could have got his name on the scoresheet when blazing over.

Bradley Johnson N/A

Early hamstring injury forced him off after 10 minutes – might not see him in a Rovers shirt for a while.

Jacob Davenport 6

Good to see him get a start in a game that at times bypassed the midfield as rovers struggled to get on the ball.  Made some important tackles and blocks.

Lewis Travis 7

His best game since returning to the starting line-up.  Still not at the required fitness levels but always there or thereabouts when needed – will only get better.

Harvey Elliott 6

Largely a quite game but again delivered when it mattered most – great one two with Armstrong to then lay it on a plate for Rothwell.

Joe Rothwell 6

Superb composed finish with his weak foot, great ball over the top to Douglas in the first half but little impact otherwise.  Looks better centrally than wide.

Adam Armstrong 6

Dragged one first half chance before being shackled well for the next hour.  Came to live with his involvement in the goal but must do better with the two chances he had to kill off the game.

Substitutes

John Buckley (replacing Bradley Johnson, 10 mins) 5

Came on early for Johnson but largely a passenger.  Not able to get on the ball as much as he would like.

Ben Brereton (replacing Harvey Elliott, 65 mins) 6

Plenty of hard work and pressing from the sub – did well to play Armstrong in for a chance he should have done better with.

Sam Gallagher (replacing Joe Rothwell, 65 mins) 7

Considering he wasn’t due to be fit for the game, he made a good impact in both the air and on the floor when coming on.  Laid one on a plate to Armstrong which should have resulted in a goal.

Bradley Dack (replacing Bradley Dack, 65 mins) 7

An encouraging cameo from our main man – looked sharper and fitter as he displayed a series of delightful touches and killer passes.

Tom Trybull (replacing Jacob Davenport, 86 mins) N/A

A late sub for Davenport. Stuck a boot and head in where necessary.
