Match Preview: Tottenham U23s v Rovers U23s

Rovers U23s will look to get back to winning ways on the road as they take on Tottenham U23s this afternoon.

Billy Barr’s side fell to a disappointing 6-4 defeat to Manchester United on their last away trip, which ended a 427-day unbeaten league run on the road.

They did return to winning ways last time out on home soil, comfortably beating West Ham 4-1, and will look for another victory here in their push for the PL2 title.

Managed by Wayne Burnett, who made three league appearances for Rovers’ senior team between 1992 and 1993, Tottenham sit fourth in the Premier League 2 table – three points behind Rovers.

Kion Etete is Spurs’ top scorer this season with five goals to his name, with the likes of Troy Parrott and Kaziah Sterling out on loan.

Burnett’s side are on a five-match unbeaten run. scoring 13 goals in the process. They also defeated Rovers earlier in the season, but both Maurizio Pochettino and Harvey White – who scored in that match – play at Watford (free agent) and Portsmouth (loan) instead now.

Team News

Joe Rankin-Costello could continue his recovery from injury after playing 45 minutes in the West Ham victory.

However, Luke Brennan will be absent after revealing on social media that he has suffered an hamstring injury. The 19-year-old will be a big miss for Rovers, with the winger scoring and assisting in the aforementioned fixture.

Predicted XI: Stergiakis, Rankin-Costello, Barnes, Annesley, Pike, Garrett, Whitehall, Nolan, Gilsenan, McBride, Burns.

This will be a tough fixture for Rovers. They were defeated by Spurs the last time the two sides met, and with both sides at the right end of the table, this is a crucial match in the push for the title.

Rovers have shown they can match any side in this division, and I’m going to predict a narrow victory for Billy Barr’s side.

Prediction: Tottenham U23s 1-2 Rovers U23s
