Mike Sheron’s U18s extended their winning league run to six matches with a 2-0 win away to Sunderland yesterday afternoon.
Fresh from beating Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon, Sheron’s side headed back to the North East in search of a sixth consecutive win.
And they achieved just that, with goals from Zak Gilsenan (penalty) and Alex Baker securing the victory for Rovers.
The sides headed into the break goalless after an even start, but Rovers improved after the restart and took the lead just after the hour mark as forward Gilsenan finished from the penalty spot for his seventh of the league season.

The win was secured around twenty minutes later as Alex Baker slotted home for his fifth goal of the season – taking his goal involvements for the season up to thirteen (with eight assists to his name).
Their run has seen them propel up the U18 Premier League table, alongside a run to the final four of the U17 Premier League Cup, and the signs are positive heading into next season.
Rovers are next in action a week on Saturday, as they host Newcastle United at the Academy on 10 April, with kick off at 12:30pm.
Rovers: Dowling, Ferguson (Fyles 66′), Pratt, Gamble, Cirino, Haddow, Weston, Harlock, Montgomery (Wood 66′), Gilsenan (Chmiel 79′), Baker.
Unused substitute: Blease.
Goals: Gilsenan pen 63′, Baker, 83′.
