Rovers U18s bowed out of the inaugral U17 Premier League Cup competition with a 5-2 loss away to Middlesbrough.
Ben Fyles and Zak Gilsenan were on the scoresheet for Rovers, who exited the inaugral edition of the tournament, which was introduced this season as an amalgamation of the U16 and U18 Premier League Cup competitions.
Rovers progressed through the group stages after being Stoke City (2-1), Sheffield United (5-1) and Manchester City (1-0).
They then ran out as victors over Leeds (1-0) in the quarter finals, thanks to Georgie Gent’s strike in extra time.

The defeat to Middlesbrough is a disappointing one following the U18s’ recent run of form, in which they have won their last six league matches.
However, the run in the tournament is one they should be proud of, and now the focus turns back to the final five U18 Premier League fixtures – starting with Saturday’s home match against Derby U18s.
