Talking Points: The record-breaking Angel

Daniel Ainsworth discusses the talking points from Rovers’ entertaining victory over Birmingham City…

The record-breaking Angel

To put it simply, Adam Armstrong has had a wonderful season for Rovers.

29 goals in all competitions is worthy of praise at any level, never mind a bottom-half Championship club, and it is obvious that plenty of clubs will be interested in the forward this summer.

Three hat-tricks in a season is only something that has been matched by Alan Shearer (twice – 1994-95 and 1995-96 – scoring four in the latter), and he’s scored more goals in a season than any player since Shearer himself – simply incredible.

If Arma does move on this summer, I wish him nothing but the best. It’s an opportunity he deserves.

Next season’s midfield three?

I was really glad to see the midfield trio of Lewis Travis, John Buckley and Jacob Davenport used, and maybe that is a nod to something we’ll see next season.

The combative style of Travis complimented Davenport and Buckley’s performances, with the midfield three helping Rovers move forward in possession, something we haven’t seen too much this season.

We know Tony likes to chop and change and injuries won’t mean it will be a set midfield three, but I’d like to see the trio play together a few more

A massive summer

I’ve spoken for a few weeks about how this huge this summer window will be for the club, and we must get it right.

We know Lewis Holtby, Stewart Downing and Corry Evans will be off, and when you add this to a few more who are expected to leave and the loanees, a lot of work is needed to even get the squad up to the same level as this season.

Let’s get the business done early on and put ourselves in a decent position heading into next season.

Thanks for supporting Rovers Chat throughout this season. It has been a year like no other and you – as the readers, followers and viewers – have made it an enjoyable one for us.
