Brereton named in Chile’s Copa America squad

Rovers forward Ben Brereton has been called up to Chile’s national side for the upcoming Copa America tournament.

Brereton, who scored seven goals and assisted five across 43 appearances this season, received his first call up to the Chile national side late last month – with ‘Breo’ eligible due to his mother being born in the South American country.

He was an unused substitute in both of Chile’s World Cup qualifiers recently – against Argentina and Bolivia – but this call-up could hand him the chance to make his debut for ‘La Roja’.

Chile’s opening match against Argentina takes place on Monday night (10pm UK time), before further group matches against Bolivia, Uruguay and Paraguay – with the top four progressing to the quarter-finals.
