Rovers return to action this evening as League One new boys Morecambe visit Ewood Park for a first round Carabao Cup tie.
After Saturday’s opening day win over Swansea City, the attentions turn to the League Cup.
Last season saw Rovers exit at the second round at the hands of Premier League outfit Newcastle United, and they are yet to make it past the third round under Tony Mowbray.
The fixture could see some of the U23s’ brightest talents given minutes due to the injuries and lack of depth the squad currently has.

Jake Garrett, who impressed in Rovers’ friendly draw with Leeds, could line up alongside Jacob Davenport, who was a late substitute in the weekend’s victory.
Dan Butterworth, who impressed off the bench against Swansea, could also be handed a start.
Rovers fans could also see Jordan Eastham make his debut for the first team with second choice ‘keeper Aynsley Pears out.
Morecambe, meanwhile, arrive at Ewood after conceding a late equaliser away to Ipswich on Saturday, and although there was disappointment, it was still a positive result for the Shrimps in their first match at League One level.
Stephen Robinson’s side could be without former Rovers academy player Sam Lavelle, although fellow Brockhall graduate Anthony O’Connor is expected to start.
Predicted XI: Eastham, Nyambe, Lenihan, Carter, Pickering, Garrett, Davenport, Buckley, Dolan, Butterworth, Gallagher
Although Morecambe will provide a tough test for Rovers, I do expect the hosts to make it through to the second round.
Prediction: Rovers 2-0 Morecambe
