Rovers U23s are set to kick off their Premier League 2 season as they face Everton U23s on Monday evening.
Mike Sheron is expected to take charge of the U23s, who have been without a permanent manager since Billy Barr departed for Salford City late last month.
Last season saw Rovers challenge for the league title, but their challenge faded away as they finished fourth.
That was an impressive season for the academy as a whole, and with the next wave of talent coming through, there will be hopes of another push for the top spot.

The likes of Dan Butterworth and Jake Garrett appear to be with the first team for the foreseeable, but the next crop have pushed their way into the U23s, including Charlie Weston, who has captained England at youth level.
Rovers face an Everton side who finished one point and one place below them in last season’s table, and it will be a tough opening day test for the young side.
The match will take place at Ewood Park this evening, with kick-off at 7pm. Entry is free to all supporters, and the fans will be seated in the Jack Walker Family Stand.
