Chris Heyes hands out his player ratings as Rovers record their first league defeat of the season…

Thomas Kaminski 9

Made some absolutely wonderful saves and kept the scoreline respectable. Proving an absolute bargain at £500k. Man Of The Match

Was given a real test by Grant and Townsend but performed admirably. Won’t face many bigger threats this season.

Darragh Lenihan 6

Not at his best and was found wanting on a few occasions. Struggled to make his presence felt as he has done previously.

Daniel Ayala 8

Certainly, the better of the two centre backs and was as good as he has been all season.

Harry Pickering 6

Was made to defend for most of the game and stood his own the majority of it. Didn’t really see any of his attacking threat.

Lewis Travis 6

Tireless work as usual but couldn’t take control of the game like he normally does.

John Buckley

Struggled to dictate play and to be fair to him the tactics didn’t suit him. Gave his all for the team though.

Joe Rothwell 7

He has become an absolute workhorse in the midfield and was the one player that looked to drive us forward as well as perform his defensive duties.

Leighton Clarkson 7

Already excited to see what he’s going to bring to the team. A beautiful assist along with some top class touches. Cracking debut.

Sam Gallagher 5

He was starved of any real service. Won a couple of aerial duels but was unable to stamp his mark on the game.

Ben Brereton Diaz 7

Another goal for the Chilean. Could have had a couple more with a bit more composure. Becoming a real leader in the team.

Substitutes

Jacob Davenport 6 (replaced Leighton Clarkson after 67 mins)

Added his usual bite for the last 25 minutes in an attempt to rescue a point.

Tyrhys Dolan 5 (replaced John Buckley after 73 mins)

Struggled to get involved and add that little extra trickery he was sent on to do.

Harry Chapman 6 (replaced Joe Rothwell after 78 mins)

Looked lively again when coming on. A few beautiful touches and almost grabbed an equaliser. Probably pushing for a start now.
