Ratings as Brereton steals the headlines with hat-trick

Daniel Ainsworth hands out his ratings as Rovers run out as comfortable winners over Cardiff City…

Thomas Kaminski 8

Kept out a few good efforts and was dominant in the air against an aerially strong Cardiff side. Had no chance for the goal.

Made a very important goal line clearance in the first half. Was limited going forward due to Cardiff’s early attacking threat so can’t fault him in that way, and he was solid defensively.

Darragh Lenihan 8

He really stood up to the physical challenge of Kieffer Moore, who was put out the match by Lenihan. Replaced when the match was all but done to be on the cautious side.

Daniel Ayala 8

He continued his impressive start to the season. Solid defensively and was forever putting the ball out of danger. He will be key to this season, so keeping him fit is essential.

Harry Pickering 8

We are really starting to see the Pickering we all expected. Provides a good balance of attacking and defending which we probably haven’t seen since the Olsson twins were at the club. Stood up well to the introduction of Giles.

Lewis Travis 8

A performance that helped the team a lot. Very aggressive against the Cardiff midfield and made sure their attacking output was limited. Nice to see him captain the side in the second half.

John Buckley 8

His interceptions and passing ability was key to the midfield. Constantly won the ball back and found Gallagher perfectly with his pass for the first goal.

Joe Rothwell 8

Brought the ball forward well and helped us build attacks. He maybe struggled for a little bit of end product but still a solid performance.

Tyrhys Dolan 8

A peach of a ball for Brereton’s first goal and then he took his own goal well to poke past Phillips. Fifty appearances already for Dolan, and a pleasure on and off the pitch.

Ben Brereton Diaz 9

An excellent performance to take the match ball home. Took the aforementioned volley really well, got a little lucky for the second but who cares, and was calm with the penalty. Covered some yards with his defensive work.

Sam Gallagher 8

A welcomed returnee to the side. Battled well in the air against the tall Cardiff side and got a deserved goal. Keeps showing why he is a good addition to the side.

Hayden Carter 7 (replaced Darragh Lenihan after 57 mins)

A decent cameo off the bench. Looks solid and capable at Championship level, making a few clearances

Reda Khadra 6 (replaced Tyrhys Dolan after 65 mins)

Showed the tricks we saw last time we played at Ewood, albeit not to the same success. Won the penalty as well.

Tayo Edun 6 (replaced Joe Rothwell after 83 mins)

Helped run down the clock and seems comfortable on the ball.
