Daniel Ainsworth discusses three talking points as Rovers are edged out in Yorkshire…
I wanted to start this piece on a positive note before delving into the negatives from Rovers’ defeat at Huddersfield, and where better to start than Ben Brereton Diaz.
I’ve waxed lyrical about his confidence growth this season, and the boost we have seen has resulted in an excellent start in front of goal.

Part of my interest in him doing so well is seeing the amount of people who took advantage of the ridiculous odds that were offered on the Chilean to score 20 goals this season – 1000/1 at the highest!
Eleven more to go, Mr Diaz!
Like Diaz, I’ve also praised the defence this season and mentioned how important the consistent selection at the back has been.
And it proved last night as Darragh Lenihan missed out altogether, before Ryan Nyambe was withdrawn, and it showed.
The importance of the Ayala and Lenihan partnership showed, as did the inexperience of the younger defenders involved.
I’m not into criticising players too much, but I will be looking forward to the return of Lenihan.
Now, the performance and injuries leave Tony with an important couple of decisions.
With Nyambe out due to concussion, it’s likely it’ll be between Carter and Buckley at right-back, and I do expect the latter to be there due to Carter being needed in the middle.
That then leaves a gap in the middle, with the likes of Tayo Edun, Jacob Davenport and Leighton Clarkson pushing for a call.
It’ll be a few tough decisions for Tony and I look forward to seeing what happens.
