Ratings: Ayala shows his influence from the bench

Completing our match content from Rovers’ match at Bristol City, Chris Heyes hands out his player ratings…

Thomas Kaminski

An assured performance from the Belgian stopper. Made a superb late save to deny the former Burnley striker, Nakhi Wells, a late winner.

Ryan Nyambe 5

Wasn’t at the races today and O’Dowda gave him the run around until he was replaced. Definitely didn’t look 100% fit.

Darragh Lenihan

Plenty of crucial blocks and tackles from the skipper, especially the one from a Bakinson shot that looked destined for the back of the net.

Scott Wharton

Given a rough opening 20 minutes by Chris Martin but grew into the game well. Dominant aerially and composed with the ball at his feet.

Tayo Edun

Bristol City enjoyed getting at him in the first half as he looked vulnerable every time he was asked to defend. Second half was much better and added an attacking threat too.

Lewis Travis

Nowhere near his best and never looked like imposing himself on the game until late on. Was lucky not to be replaced instead of Davenport.

John Buckley

Like most of the Rovers team struggled to get into the first half. Became a real attacking threat in the Second half even when moved to wing back.

Jacob Davenport

A combative display if not a eye catching one. Rovers looked slightly too defensive with him and Travis on the pitch together in the second half and can probably feel aggrieved that he was replaced.

Ian Poveda

Made quite a bright start to the game before having to leave the field on a stretcher. Fingers crossed that the injury is not as bad as initially feared.

Ben Brereton Diaz 8

Another important goal for Big Ben despite having very little service all game. Only criticism that I have is the number of times he is caught offside. Always willing to track back and help his midfield out when Rovers were under the cosh.

Reda Khadra 6

Plenty of promise and trickery that just lacked the killer instinct. Gave the City defenders a tough time and Tony plenty to think about.

Daniel Ayala 8 (replaced Ian Poveda after 44 mins)

To give a half time substitute Man of The Match just shows his importance to our team. An absolute rock at the back and his introduction was key to us getting into the game. Man Of The Match

Joe Rothwell 6 (replaced Jacob Davenport after 60 mins)

The replacement that I was calling for at halftime but seemed to be playing to deep to have the desired impact.

Leighton Clarkson 6 (replaced Ryan Nyambe after 67 mins)

One of his brighter cameo appearances for Rovers and showcased his passing range and abilities to pick out Rothwell and Khadra late on.
