Talking Points: Buckley’s stock continues to rise

Daniel Ainsworth discusses three talking points from Rovers’ away day victory at Stoke City…

Dancing Reda

Seeing Reda Khadra making the most of his chance to start with Sam Gallagher and Ian Poveda is excellent, and it is exactly what we want to see from all players who aren’t regular starters.

The Brighton loanee led the line well alongside Brereton Diaz, and he deserves all the plaudits that may come his way.

Keeping Tyrhys Dolan out of this side is another indicating factor that Khadra is performing well, and long may these performances continue.

The away following

The home attendances have been a big discussion point over the course of the season, but there is no denying Rovers’ excellent followings on the road this year.

Over 1,600 fans made the trip to the chilly Bet365 Stadium and they were in fine voice throughout the match, and backed the boys until the end.

The team responded, giving the fans the victory we all craved, and I couldn’t be prouder to support this team on days like Saturday.

Our number 21

I couldn’t finish this piece without mentioning the outstanding performance from John Buckley.

For me, he is up there with the first names on the teamsheet. His tenacious style of pressing the opposition and the range of passing he possesses is truly wonderful and he has become a key player in the side.

His showing is up there with the best individual performances I’ve seen in a long time, and I – for one – am very glad we have John tied down to a long term deal.

We are delighted to confirm the ‘Rovers Chat Advent Calendar’ series will return, which guarantees at least one new video per day through December.

We’re kicking off December with the release of our exclusive podcast with John Buckley, who speaks to us about his time with the club, rising through the academy and into the first team. Come back at 5pm on 1 December to see the podcast first!
